In a continuing effort to promote sustainable development and environmental preservation, Bataan Governor Joet Garcia led the signing of a multi-party Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with San Miguel Global Power Foundation (SMGP) and various stakeholders for a series of environmental projects across the province. The ceremonial signing was held on June 18, 2025, at Lou-is Resort and Restaurant in Balanga City.
The MOA includes key initiatives such as the Forests for Life: Project SusTREEnability for 1Bataan, which will be implemented in the towns of Mariveles, Orion, and Limay. Other projects include the Orion Mangrove Adoption and Protection Project and Balanced and Healthful Life Underwater Ecology (Project B.L.U.E.) Hello Pawikan Project in Bagac. These initiatives aim to restore forest cover, protect coastal ecosystems, and support marine biodiversity.
Governor Garcia emphasized that the partnerships reflect Bataan’s commitment to balancing industrial growth with environmental responsibility. “Through collaboration with national agencies, local government units, and the private sector, we are taking concrete steps to protect our environment for future generations,” he said.
San Miguel Global Power (SMGP), the energy arm of San Miguel Corporation, plays a significant role in the partnership. As a leading power generation company in the country, SMGP is known for its investments in renewable energy and community-based environmental programs. Representing SMGP at the event was AVP and HR Head Danilo Tolarba.
Also present were DENR Region 3 Executive Director Engr. Ralph Pablo, Mariveles Mayor AJ Concepcion, Bataan Board Member Popoy Del Rosario, and representatives from LGUs of Orion, Limay, and Bagac, along with community organizations SAMASAKA, BUFAI, SAMACA, 3CPC, and ASFAI.
